Oversized Down Comforters

by admin on January 5, 2010

Up until now, I’ve primarily focused on prices and style but today I’m going to hone in on size. Even if you don’t have a king sized bed, sometimes you still want bigger bedding so the bed frame or apron is covered up or so that you have ample room to swirl and swoosh your blankets and covers (yes, that’s straight out of the book of George Costanza). With this intro, I’m finally ready to dive into the topic of oversized down comforters.

Oversized down comforters are going to provide ample coverage when you’re in bed. This bigger and better bedding prevents the ever famous hogging of the blanket and the always unpopular cold, exposed feet at the end of the bed. Below are some of the best down comforters oversized available.

Pacific Coast has the ultra wide Grand Down Comforter. If you aren’t tall, this is probably perfect since with will be your primary concern. For this type of extra large size, you’ll need a special double duvet cover to encase the Grand Down. The only problem I have is the PacificCoast.com website doesn’t say any measurements. I’d love to relay these numbers to you but we’ll have to press onward for other options.

Pacific Coast also makes the Grandia Lightweight Oversized Down Comforter for the king. This measures 108” x 98”. To put that into context, it’s about 9 feet by 8 feet (approximately). In relation to more traditional comforters, it’s about 20% bigger. Beyond just the size, it has a 550 fill power which is excellent in providing insulation, warmth, cushion, and comfort. Also with a 300 thread count, you won’t have goose down feathers escaping out the seems and flying at you when you open the package.

Overstock.com has the Castlepeak 310 Oversized Down Comforter for $49.99. The good news is this has a 310 thread count and a 600 thread count which are very high quality numbers. Unfortunately, this is dry clean only. I usually try to steer only towards machine wash down comforters. For a king size, you’re looking at 104 by 88 inches. The queen is 88×88. The CastlePeak is deal for cold weather and will keep you warm even in colder states up north like Chicago and New York. As for feel, it’s very fluffy and the fabric is made of very soft material. You may want to find a duvet cover with this as some buyers said any potential flaws could be curved by the duvet.
